Job Opportunity: Sign Language Interpreter

Are you a skilled Sign Language Interpreter looking for a rewarding opportunity to support students' communication needs? We are currently hiring for a full-time position to join our team for the 2024-2025 school year. As an integral member of our educational team, you will provide 1:1 support to a 7th-grade student, fostering their academic and social success through effective communication.

Position Overview:

  • Role: Sign Language Interpreter
  • Duration: Full-time, 2024-2025 school year
  • Hours: 7:40 AM - 2:35 PM
  • Assignment: 1:1 student support for a 7th-grade student
  • Location: Onsite presence required

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum EIPA score of 4.0 (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment)
  • Michigan certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (Secondary preferred, but elementary certification will be considered)
  • Onsite presence is a must

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct interpreting services to facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and peers in a variety of educational settings.
  • Ensure access to academic content by accurately interpreting lessons, discussions, and classroom interactions.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment that promotes the student's academic and social engagement.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to address the student's individual needs and learning goals.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter in Michigan.
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with educational interpreting standards.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
