Amentum is seeking a Material Segregator/Classifier to join our team in Hawthorne, Nevada to support the Hawthorne Army Depot. The Material Segregator/Classifier will be a key member with the Material Control – BATF Surplus Sales department. Typical functions include the receipt of material from on and off-post federal agencies, identifying the same and ensure all materials are properly documented, to include monetary value, stock number – if known, quantities and correct authorities.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Verify the identity, completeness, and condition of excess and surplus property received in the branch for disposal.
  • Follow Safety Data Sheet guidelines for handling, storage, and disposal of Hazardous Materials.
  • Ability to plan and perform difficult work where only general operation methods, instructions, or standards are available. Also requires the ability to make decisions using considerable ingenuity, initiative, and judgement.
  • Receive a variety of material from on and off-base federal agencies. Assure identification including proper documentation, dollar value, stock number, quantity, and correct authority. Validate specific measurements using measuring tape.
  • Research stocks list, technical orders, microfiche identification lists, GSA catalogs, and other available publications for proper description, cost, and other information in order to properly identify material.
  • Complete required entries on turn in documents, assuring unit count, unit cost, condition, weight, and unique identifying data.
  • Sign for receipt and forwards documentation. Prepare information tag (stock number, nomenclature, cost, etc.) and attach to material.
  • Segregate and conspicuously mark materials to preclude mixing.
  • Determine commercial or scrap value by visual inspection, knowledge, or mission property, and/or consultation with other personnel.
  • Prepare documentation on material shortages.
  • Assist or provide guidance to equipment operators by spotting or unloading excess scrap or surplus material.
  • Open boxes, unpack material, sort, and temporarily repack incidental to receipt.
  • Operate electric, gas, or diesel forklift to move, stow, or load material.
  • Operate a 50 ton scale to determine gross or axle weight of vehicles incoming and outgoing.
  • Segregate materials received for potential operational reutilization
  • Resolve discrepancies, such as short count, wrong material, and lack of identification by contact with releasing organization, materials and equipment inspectors, etc.
  • Coordinate and initiate corrective action or return material for rerouting to proper destination.
  • Assist Dept Manager with Scrap Sales operations, including providing photos, material descriptions, disposal options, research potential purchasers, weights, storage locations, special handling needs, all associated documentation
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record.
  • Performs other duties of the same or lower level of difficulty than those listed.
  • Work in close proximity to and or in a chemical/munitions demilitarization facility.
  • Responsible for reporting actual and potential safety and environmental concerns.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State driver’s license. Must also be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance as well as a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and be favorably vetted through the NCIC III System.
  • Read, write and perform mathematical calculations, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, satisfactorily follow rules and procedures. Be available for standby duty.
  • Data logging, record keeping
  • Perform skilled to semi-skilled tasks including but not limited to operating and maintaining equipment, tools, vehicle, and material handling equipment
  • Must be able to work well with people and as a Team Player.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a United States or naturalized citizen able to obtain and maintain Hawthorne Army Depot (HWAD) site access.
  • Good writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment.
  • Must maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position, to include any HWAD drill, contingency and/or emergency requirement.
  • Must have One (1) – Years of experience in Property Disposal Operations or (2) Years in Munitions Handling functions.
  • Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner. Perform safety sensitive duties
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications as required by Amentum’s Master Training

  • This position is designated as a safety sensitive position and is subject to the requirements of the HWAD Medical Surveillance Plan and Matrix and the HWAD A&D Program. As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents must favorably complete a personnel security investigation, drug testing, medical exam and respiratory screening, and must meet and maintain personnel suitability and reliability requirements established by 29 CFR and Army Regulations: AR 190-11, AR 190-13 and DOD Contractors Safety Manual 4145.26.
