Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The Office of Research Communications serves the University by conveying the value of research conducted at Carolina to the people of North Carolina and the world. The office produces the UNC Research website and Endeavors, the University’s digital research magazine. ORC supports the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR)’s administrative offices and centers and institutes with communication and marketing services including strategic planning and guidance, content creation, graphic design, event planning, website administration, executive communications, and amplification of research news and events.

Position Summary:

The Office of Research Communications at UNC-Chapel Hill oversees internal and external communications for the university, disseminating vital research news to university researchers, administrators, and staff members and creating original written and visual content that breaks down complex research topics for a lay audience. For this internship, the selected candidate will work closely with our strategic communications manager to update our interactive research map highlighting Carolina projects in all 100 counties, produce newspaper-style articles for the internal research community, and develop ideas for University Research Week, an annual campus-wide celebration of research that takes place each fall. They will also work with the editor of Endeavors, the university’s digital research magazine, to produce a feature story on a research project and will have opportunities to collaborate with other members of our team, including our graphic designer, webmaster, and photographer. In-person attendance Tuesday and Thursday in Chapel Hill, Hybrid otherwise.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
