Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland invites applications for a full-time lecturer to begin August 23, 2024. Payroll start date of July 30, 2024. This is a 1.0 FTE, 9-month position with an initial one-year contract and the possibility of 3-5 year renewal contracts. Approximately 90% percent of the lecturer’s commitment will be teaching undergraduate courses, with the remaining effort dedicated to service activities.

The position will be dedicated to teaching primarily within the newly launched, interdisciplinary Social Data Science major. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in research methods, quantitative methodology, proficiency in programming languages such as R and Python, as well as a passion for advancing research integrity and open science. Familiarity with social network analysis, survey methodology, or advanced analytic techniques such as machine learning, or natural language processing, is desirable but not required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
M.A. in Criminology and/or Criminal Justice, Data Science, Information Science, or a closely related field.

Experience:
A strong, demonstrated investment in multimodal learning.
Commitment to undergraduate education as well as evidence of excellence in teaching diverse groups of students.
