Indiana University School of Medicine seeks a strong academic leader for the Director of Division of Infectious Diseases at the Department of Medicine.

The Division of Infectious Diseases consists of 29 faculty members who have numerous close clinical and research associations with other departments. Some other highlights:

  • Clinical practice takes place at five hospitals within the Indiana University Health (IUH) System as well as at Eskenazi Health Hospital (County Hospital) and the Roudebush VA.
  • The Division has a rich history in research and currently has in excess of $4.7 million in extramural funding from the NIH, CDC, and industry.
  • The Infectious Diseases Division plays an active role in the education of learners from the medical student level through fellowship.
  • The ID Division holds a T32 postdoctoral research training grant entitled âSexually Transmitted Infections and other infections of Global Health Significanceâ.
  • The division footprint includes 8,417 square feet of administrative space and 7,280 square feet of research space.
  • The ID Division holds several endowments including an endowed chair, and endowed fellowship position, and an endowment which supports research related to HIV.
  • In addition, the Medical School has access to endowment money and additional resources, specifically for the recruitment of physician scientists.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Lead the Division in its missions of research, clinical care, and education, including development of and implementation of the strategic plan for the division
    • Oversee budgeting and resource management
    • Recruit superior faculty to implement the Divisionâs programs, with the goal of doubling the Divisionâs funded research portfolio over the next 5 years
    • Oversee development and mentoring of the faculty
    • Work collaboratively with the ID Divisionâs Service Line Leader to enhance the patient care mission.
    • Work collaboratively with the Fellowship Program Director and the KCE to support and expand the educational mission of the division
    • Conduct annual faculty performance evaluations and create development plans in accordance with Indiana University School of Medicine policy
    • Participate in clinical service to the degree desired

      This position offers the opportunity to:

      • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the Division
      • Strengthen the Divisionâs research endeavors by expanding its established strengths and developing new areas of research.
      • Continue to build an interdisciplinary research program by leveraging relationships.
      • Recruit early stage and midlevel faculty to carry out the research mission.
      • Develop his/her own extramurally funded research program.
      • Foster the Divisionâs role in expanding the Global Health Research Program, including AMPATH replication in Ghana and Mexico.
      • Foster growth of the Divisionâs role in collaborative studies.
      • Join with a progressive and collaborative team of clinical and basic science leaders to enhance the teaching, research and clinical excellence of the Indiana University School of Medicine
