Position
The PBMC Lab Technician plays a critical role in supporting clinical research by handling the collection, processing, and shipping of Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) in line with sponsor protocols, CTT policies, and OSHA standards, ensuring specimen integrity and compliance. Beyond laboratory tasks, they provide vital administrative support to the regulatory department, clinical research coordinators (CRCs), and management, contributing to the seamless operation of CTT's clinical trials. Their responsibilities necessitate a unique blend of technical proficiency in biological specimen handling and strong organizational skills for managing documentation and compliance. Daily collaboration with CRCs and laboratory technicians is essential for understanding laboratory requirements and coordinating patient assignments for study visits efficiently. Through this multifaceted role, the PBMC Lab Technician embodies the integration of scientific expertise and administrative support, playing a key role in advancing clinical research and enhancing patient care.
Company
Our client is a Clinical Research site network with over 17 research sites across the United States. Their sites conduct Phase I-IV trials in therapeutic areas like cardiology, metabolic disorders, renal, CNS, pulmonology, and vaccines. They are a fast-growing site network with plans to grow from 17 sites to over 30 sites in 2024 alone.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in biological field required, or Bachelor's degree preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of experience within clinical or biological research
- Minimum of 1 year of experience within a laboratory environment
Additional Information regarding responsibilities
- Read, understand, and is able to follow instruction manuals and sponsor protocols regarding laboratory specimens to be obtained following appropriate timelines per protocols;
- Is able to obtain, process, and ship laboratory specimens using good laboratory technique and following OSHA and IATA regulations;
- Obtain and maintain IATA certification at all times;
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and protocol issues as appropriate and as bound by Confidentiality Agreements with CTT, between CTT and sponsors, between CTT and other entities, and in compliance with all HIPAA regulations;
- Promptly report any adverse events or laboratory incidents to management that occur with patients when obtaining or processing lab specimens;
- Ensure availability of appropriate amounts of laboratory supplies at all times;
- Use professionalism in all communications with patients, sponsors, physicians, clinic staff, CTT employees, etc., whether communications occur in person, via telephone, or via electronic modes;
- Attend required training courses/conferences in order to stay abreast of current and changing federal regulations and CTT policies;
- Pursue educational opportunities to increase knowledge of the research process, good laboratory practices, OSHA and IATA regulations;
- Trained in universal precautions for blood-borne pathogens;
- Perform all duties in a safe and prudent manner;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
