FOCUS:

This role focuses on ultrasound support for VEG hospitals and training facilities. You will work closely with emergency doctors to provide same-day ultrasound scans for pets when they need it most. You will also assist in coordinating education opportunities and overall ultrasound training for your home and regional hospitals. You will inspire and motivate your fellow VEGgies to grow their ultrasound skills.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO:
  • Perform ultrasound studies and facilitate ultrasound training at your home hospital and regional hospitals
  • Maintain good relationships with and accept feedback from teleconsultation radiologists reading your studies (e.g., Antech, SonoPath, IDEXX, VetsChoice, etc.)
  • Ensure all training content and activities are in alignment with VEG culture, mission, and vision, and represent accurate, up-to-date sonographic techniques
  • Track doctor and nursing team skills with a VEG Ultrasound Certificate checklist
  • Engage in self-reflection and program evaluation practices to modify and enhance VEG's ultrasound training programs
  • Regularly meet with the medical directors, VNDCs, and director of radiology education to discuss program development, training objectives, and additional needs
  • Regularly meet with hospital manager and medical director to discuss implementation of new training protocols, training schedules, hospital training needs, and interpersonal concerns
  • Coordinate weekly schedule with hospital manager and medical director to work on-the-floor shifts and dedicate time to training responsibilities
  • May assist in developing ultrasound curriculum material, as needed, such as PowerPoints, videos, simulations, and assessments to be implemented across the doctor and nursing team training programs
  • May have the opportunity to provide educational demonstrations for doctors and nurses at other VEGs including ultrasound topics such as abdominal, thoracic, cardiac, cervical, and musculoskeletal studies

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
  • Full-time employment and benefits with VEG
  • Patience to train and develop doctors, nurses, and fellow sonographers
  • Previous experience in a training role
  • >3 years veterinary ultrasound experience
  • Credentials as a veterinary technician (LVT/CVT/RVT/LVMT), diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS), AND/OR equivalent experience (e.g., sonographer course certificates)
  • Comfort mentoring others and giving/receiving feedback from colleagues
  • A positive and friendly personality
  • The ability to adapt to changing environments

  • The ability to recognize and celebrate other VEGgies' success when they see it
  • Eagerness to continue to grow as a sonographer through developing personal skills and knowledge
  • Desire to travel to regional hospitals and off-site training facilities (e.g., Fort Collins, CO, Las Vegas, NV, White Plains, NY etc.)
