Duties

We are currently seeking a full-time psychiatrist for our Outpatient Substance Use Disorder program. Duties will include initial evaluations and ongoing care for clinical determination of treatment for substance use including medication and/or therapy. You will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team to include psychologists, social workers, addiction therapists, nursing, and peer support specialists. In addition to your medication management, referrals can be made within the program for individual or group counseling. The outpatient program is also closely aligned with our 21-day inpatient residential Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Program (SARRTP). Teaching opportunities with Psychiatry Residents and Addiction Fellows is also available.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Contract Buy Out Program: This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts (Locum agreements, loan repayments, sign-on bonus contracts, Physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years). Staff Psychiatrists:

  1. Are ultimately responsible for all aspects of psychiatric care.
  2. Provide or assist residents and/or nurse practitioners in the process of evaluation and treatment of the psychiatric patient.
  3. Provide appropriate and timely documentation, generally in the form of a staff progress note, in the patient's electronic record. They also cosign resident notes, indicating supervision and concurrence with that note.
  4. Are trained in the performance of Electroconvulsive Therapy and supervise residents in same on scheduled basis.
  5. Have a tour of duty that includes a 40 hour work week, typically 8:00 am-4:30 pm Monday through Friday, but hours could vary, and call as scheduled.
  6. Participation in the on-call rotation is required, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  7. During any on-call hours, are available for all emergency psychiatric interventions.
  8. Are appropriately credentialed and privileged.
  9. May be responsible for inpatient or outpatient care, graduate and undergraduate medical education, and scientific research as appropriate.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 0800-1630, with weekend/holiday rotating on call
