Archivist for Education and Access Services

Job Description:
Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by connecting potential users to archival collections and services through management of reference and researcher services, direction of archival education and instruction, and digitization of analog records. The Archivist for Education and Access Services also curates the analog photograph holdings of the Archives.

Salary: $49,600/year or more depending on experience.

Essential Functions

Leads initiatives to facilitate and encourage the use of archival collections and services.
Directs, in coordination with university faculty and LAM instructional staff, the Archives instruction and education program.
Coordinates the creation, maintenance, and enrichment of metadata to maximize discovery of archival collections.
Directs, assesses, and participates in reference and reproduction services to researchers both in the archives reading room and online.
Plans, designs, and manages workflows for implementation and maintenance of digitization projects.
Develops, evaluates, and implements strategies for marketing and outreach access and use of the University Archives, including research support to projects related to Norwich University history.
Contributes to unit-wide collection management activities, including curation of the analog photograph collection.
Participates in activities shared by all archives staff including donor relations, collection development, and development of policies and procedures.
Arranges, describes, and curates the analog photographic holdings of the University Archives.
Serves on university committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
Manages work-study students employed by the University Archives, including project management and scheduling.

Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.

Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:
Master's degree in library and/or information science from ALA-accredited institution.
3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in an academic library.
Demonstrated interest or experience in teaching using archival collections or other primary sources and/or experience working with students in an academic setting.
Experience applying standards and best practices for the description and digitization of archival, manuscript, and/or photographic materials.
Experience delivering reference services to a diverse user population.
Working knowledge of metadata standards relevant to archival control of digital collection materials such as Dublin Core, DACS, EAD, METS, MODS and PREMIS.
Knowledge of a variety of photographic formats and processes.
Experience working with social media tools.
Flexible and creative approach to problem solving.
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook). Experience with digital asset management software (such as CONTENTdm, OnBase, Sharepoint).
Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 40 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus.
Work some evening or weekend hours.
Travel as needed (public or private transportation).
Environmental Conditions

Indoor work in an office environment and both inside and outside donor residences with potential exposure to dust, mold, and pests.
Low level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
