Position Description:

To perform actuarial services, including calculating various actuarial liabilities, filing rates with departments of insurance, analyzing competitive intelligence data, maintaining the corporate forecast, and performing corporate product and plan design projects.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Assists in developing, reviewing and providing actuarial certification to rate filings for Delta Dental, its subsidiaries, and other Delta Plans as needed.
  • Performs actuarial valuation (incurred but unpaid claims liabilities, active life reserves, etc.) and prepares associated documentation and statements of actuarial opinion for Delta Dental, its subsidiaries, and other Delta Plans as needed.
  • Participates in corporate product and plan design, new ventures and other special projects.
  • Reviews available resources for insight on market competitiveness and develops tools to leverage competitive information.
  • Provides reporting and analysis on claims and plan designs to large group customers, as well as modeling/forecasting internally.
  • Assists in developing staff members.

Minimum Requirements:

Position requires a bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics or statistics and four years' actuarial experience, preferably in group health. Will accept any suitable combination of education, training, or experience.

Position requires the successful completion of a minimum of five Actuarial exams (or equivalent components), with progression being made to attain Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA); solid technical knowledge; the ability to solve complex problems and use independent judgment.
