Summary

The psychologist for whom this functional statement applies is assigned to the position of Clinical Psychologist in the Mental Health Clinic within Mental Health Service. They will be a part of a Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) team provide direct patient care in the Mental Health Clinic. This psychologist will diagnose mental disorders, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders. Among the modalities provided are individual, family, and group psychotherapies. They will consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. This psychologist may be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides psychological assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders, particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients.
  • Provides a full range of comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
  • Serve as an advocate/provider on behalf of the Veterans in the Mental Health Clinic (MHC) Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) teams to ensure delivery of comprehensive, seamless Mental Health Service.
  • Identifies patient problems requiring consultation with other medical center staff and making appropriate referrals.
  • Assures that appropriate referrals to specialty programs, including community resources, are accomplished.
  • Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others.
  • Provides, and where appropriate, refers patients, families and significant others for counseling in health maintenance and disease prevention.
  • Provides clinical supervision to various disciplines and levels of training.
  • Consults with peers and supervisors as appropriate.
  • Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients.
  • Complies with all CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedures (e.g., entering diagnosis and procedure codes).
  • Assist the BHIP program supervisor in the execution of ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of the clinical program.
  • Attends regular Psychology meetings, Medical Staff meetings, and complies with Psychology peer review procedures.
  • Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the Chief, Mental Health Service, and the Supervisor, Mental Health Clinic.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
