The General Surgeon works full time in the West Palm Beach VA Surgical Services. Clinical competence in General Surgery requires knowledge and skills in the preoperative evaluation, operative management, and postoperative care of patients including critical care involving general structures.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Admission, consultation, work-up, preoperative and postoperative care to correct or treat various conditions, illnesses and injuries.
Surgical expertise required includes Upper GI endoscopy, surgery on the alimentary tract (esophagus, stomach and bowels).
Surgery on abdomen and its contents (diaphragm, biliary tract, liver, pancreas, spleen).
Surgery on breast, skin and soft tissue (benign and malignant diseases).
Surgery on head and neck (including trauma, vascular, congenital and cancerous disorders).
Surgery on endocrine (thyroid and parathyroid glands, the pancreas and adrenal glands).
Surgical oncology (including coordinated management of cancer patient).
Actively participates in Emergency and On-Call schedule.
Serves as a consultant to primary care physicians.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
(Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).
