The John V. Roach Honors College at Texas Christian University invites applications for the Andrews Chair of Interdisciplinary Studies at the rank of either full or advanced associate professor beginning Fall 2024. The disciplinary background is open, and competitive candidates must bring interdisciplinary interests in the general medical field that extend to both teaching and research.

We seek applications from teacher-scholars who demonstrate a distinguished record of publications, an active and dynamic research agenda, a strong teaching profile, and innovative and interdisciplinary interests in fields such as the history of medicine and science, the medical humanities, global health, and/or community and public health. We also seek applicants interested in creating collaborative ventures with the Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at TCU, the College of Science and Engineering, and the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

We seek a first-rate scholar and teacher who is:
• a creative educator who uses their research as a vehicle for innovative pedagogy;
• a scholar with a significant, ongoing research agenda in areas of interest
• an excellent teacher dedicated to facilitating high-impact, experiential, and inclusive practices for undergraduate honors students and engaged student mentoring.
• a communicator whose research and scholarly or creative achievements enhance the honors college and TCU, and who is able to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
• a colleague whose teaching and scholarship embody fundamental commitments to diversity and inclusion.
• a collaborative and ambitious colleague who will enrich the College’s contributions to our students and to the TCU/Fort Worth community while also elevating the national profile of the John V. Roach Honors College.

Required qualifications:
• Doctoral or terminal degree
• Active and dynamic research agenda in an area related to the history of medicine and science, the medical humanities; global health; and/or community and public health
• Demonstrated achievement as a creative and reflective teacher capable of effectively teaching honors courses at the undergraduate level;
• Demonstrated success in supporting an atmosphere of collegiality and working with colleagues from a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives.

Preferred qualifications:
• Either Honors or interdisciplinary teaching experience (or equivalent).
• Experience in securing external research funding

Department Details:
The Andrews Chair in Interdisciplinary Studies in the John V. Roach Honors College was provided by the generosity of Judy and Paul Andrews. Their gift was provided to enable the Honors College to hire and support a prestigious scholar who has excelled as both a teacher and researcher who will engage with undergraduate students and contribute to the interdisciplinary work that extends and expands students’ love for their disciplines.

Judy and Paul Andrews are known as remarkable citizens who have earned a reputation for underwriting transformations. Included in the Andrews’ many philanthropic endeavors are the Paul and Judy Andrews Women’s Hospital at Baylor, Scott & White All Saints Medical Center, The Andrews Institute of Mathematics and Science Education, and The John V. Roach Honors College, which they named after their friend and former Board of Trustees Chairman John V. Roach.

School/College Description:
The John V. Roach Honors College is a community of ambitious, intellectually curious students from every major on campus (over 1,200 in total, approximately 10 percent of the TCU undergraduate population). Honors College faculty craft unique learning experiences through which students encounter ideas and perspectives beyond their majors, adding depth and context to students’ undergraduate studies and accelerating their personal growth. Through high-impact practices such as intercultural and interdisciplinary inquiry, discussion-intensive seminars, independent research and creative projects, and community-engaged learning, Honors students are immersed in a culture of transformative inquiry. Honors students are further supported by a dedicated team of Honors Academic Advisors.
