The Department of Neurological Surgery in the School of Medicine at the University of California, Davis will invite applications for a position in translational neuroengineering at the Assistant or Associate professor rank, in the Ladder Rank (tenure track)/In-Residence series, commensurate with experience, with an anticipated start date of November 1, 2025 (this is flexible). Faculty in this series are expected to engage in teaching, independent research and creative work, demonstrate professional competence and activity, and provide University and public service.

Candidates must possess a PhD. and/or M.D. degree. We seek an outstanding candidate focused on addressing how to interface with the spinal cord and/or brain to understand (in both health and disease) and restore physiological functions such as movement, postural control, and autonomic homeostasis. We especially seek candidates who will interact and enhance our growing team focused on human intracranial recording and stimulation, brain-computer interfaces, computational neuroscience, functional and spinal neurosurgery. UC Davis also has a top veterinary program and facilities, presenting the opportunity for parallel work in pre-clinical animal models.

The appointee is expected to have an active research program, a track record or the potential to attract extramural funding, and excellent potential for interactions/collaborations within the Neurological Surgery Department and with the wider UC Davis community including Biomedical Engineering, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and the Center for Neuroscience. The ideal candidate will have interest in applying their research to both basic and translational neuroscience. The applicant’s accomplishments in innovative research and commitments to mentorship, teaching and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion should demonstrate their potential to develop into the future leaders of their fields.
