Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Serves as a Urologist within the Martinsburg VA Medical Center. The incumbent's clinical and surgical duties involve diseases of the male and female urinary tract system, kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra, and the male reproductive organs (testes, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate and penis). The incumbent must be Board Certified or board eligible by the American Board of Urology and have extensive clinical knowledge in the area of Urologic Surgery. Incumbent may be required to provide mentoring and supervision to affiliated medical school students.

Surgical Role:
Participates in the operating room commensurate with technical abilities: performs preoperative and post-operative evaluation for surgical patients and discusses with staff: Surgery of Penis, Urethra, Orchiectomy (Simple-Radical), Ureter, Bladder, and Kidney. Participates in team approach to ensure appropriate patient assessments, anticipates patient care needs, prevents avoidable complications, and achieves optimal patient conditions. Acts in adherence to surgical care in accordance with ethical principles.

Clinic Role:
Comprehensive care of ambulatory patients in the outpatient Urology Clinic as well as care of all inpatients and patients presenting to the Emergency Department; Performs Clinic Examinations, Management of New Patient Consultations, Diagnosis and Treatment.

Administrative Role:
Appropriate charting including the timely documentation of patient assessment and plan of care. Completion of encounters and dictations of operative notes. Participation in committees if requested.

Supervisory Controls
The Urologist will report to the section Chief of Urology as primary supervisor. Work duties must be under the supervision of the Chief of Surgery.

Customer Service Requirements
Effectively Communicates with and utilizes other disciplines (e.g., nursing, medicine) to facilitate treatment planning and implementation. With few exceptions, participates effectively in meetings, treatment planning conferences, etc. Establishes and maintains good working relationships with management, co-workers, patients, and the general public. Incumbent will display a cooperative attitude and will effectively work together to implement the organization's missions and goals.

Age Specific Criteria
Age-specific care, as identified in the Age-Specific Competencies, including knowledge of changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric age groups; ability to assess and interpret data about the patient's status' and ability to identify age-specific needs and provide the appropriate care based upon the age related factors noted.

Interpersonal Relationships
Demonstrates the ability to establish effective working relationships within the surgical department and with co-workers, patients, support service staff, nursing staff, physicians and other Medical Center staff. Maintains self-control and responds effectively to requirements of a complex, high-intensity work situation.
