Job Summary
This position is responsible for directing the operations of the Department of Aviation Science and Management.

Responsibilities
Administration (55%) -
Leadership of specialized accreditation, clinical practice, lab or alternative instruction oversight as needed by the department and assigned by the dean
Complete annual departmental assessment reports
Assists the Dean in the development and maintenance of curriculum and courses representative of the discipline and supportive of the educational objectives of the college.
Assists the Dean in evaluating, recruiting and recommending the appointment of faculty.
Monitors student success, including student retention and progression data.
Develops semester course schedules.
Produces a variety of reports.
Ensures consist pedagogy in science subjects across all campuses.
Ensures all relevant courses are in compliance with USG and SACSCOC policies.

Personnel Management (25%) -
Ensures all personnel decisions are in compliance USG and MGA faculty and staff policies.
Reviews problems between faculty members or between faculty and students.
Recommends faculty for tenure, promotion, or non-renewal contract status as appropriate.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Assigns mentors to new hire faculty and staff members.
Completes annual evaluation of faculty and staff performance.
Approve faculty and staff work schedules and leave requests within a timely manner

Other Duties (15%) -
Teach one 3 or 4 credit hour course per semester using face-to-face, hybrid, or online learning formats.
Attends meetings scheduled by the Dean, Provost, or other relevant administrators as a representative of the department.
Participates in strategic planning development and initiatives as needed.
Addresses and resolves student appeals and complaints
Ensure departmental representatives are available during summer sessions and campus recruitment events

Budget Management (5%) -
Assists in the development of the department budget recommendation; supplies data and statistics; administers assigned budgets.
Ensures proper equipment and supplies are ordered in a timely manner with the assistance of the Administrative Coordinator or Administrative Assistant in accordance with budgetary guidelines and parameters

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a master's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

Required Experience
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a doctoral degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

Knowledge of the field relevant to the assigned department.

Knowledge of budget development and management principles.
Knowledge of classroom practices, teaching methodologies, assessment systems, and educational technology.

Skill to make timely decisions.
Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
