Houston, United States Baylor College of Medicine Full time
Summary

The Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) at Baylor College of Medicine Is seeking a postdoctoral associate to play a pivotal role in our genomic medicine efforts, focusing on projects that integrate population genetics, statistical analysis, and health data. You will directly contribute to deeper analysis of data derived from the HGSC's pioneering work in Mendelian genomics and multiple NIH-funded Precision Medicine initiatives. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in genomic medicine, working at the forefront of human health and disease, with opportunities for publication, conference travel and international scientific collaboration.

The HGSC was founded in 1996 under the leadership of Dr. Richard Gibbs and is a world leader in genomics. The primary mission of the HGSC is actionable translational research across the full spectrum of human health and disease using large-scale genomic data to drive collaborative analytics, gene-phenotype discovery, and clinical innovation. The HGSC is funded from multiple National Institutes of Health sources, including the All of Us Research Program as a Genome Center, the Gregor Consortium to elucidate the genetics of rare disease funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and as a sequence technology core for the Texas Medical Center Genomic Center for Infectious Disease (GCID) established by the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Being a premier large-scale sequencing center, the HGSC provides a unique opportunity to work on the cutting edge of genomic science in a state-of-the-art institution.

Job Duties

Conducts innovative research in the field of population genetics, utilizing large genomic datasets to understand genetic variation and its impact on human health. Applies advanced statistical analysis methods to interpret complex genomic data, primarily next-generation sequencing data. Works on multiomics projects, integrating data from genomics, and potentially transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics to elucidate the mechanisms of diseases. Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, including bioinformaticians, geneticists, and clinicians, to advance genomic medicine initiatives. Develops and implement new computational methods and tools for the analysis of genomic data. Contributes to the writing of scientific papers and grant proposals. Presents research findings at internal meetings and international conferences. Engages in the mentoring and training of junior researchers and students.

Minimum Qualifications

MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field. No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field. Strong background in population genetics, statistical genetics, or a closely related area. Proficiency in statistical and bioinformatics tools and programming languages (e.g., Hail, R, Python). Experience with multiomics data analysis and interpretation. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and work collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong track record of scientific publications. Familiarity with high-performance computing environments is a plus.
