An ESS substitute personal care assistant provides extra support to an individual student with special needs, promoting maximum academic and personal growth. This position assumes duties of a personal care nature which will allow the child to participate to the maximum extent in the least restrictive environment.
Substitute personal care assistants are also known as one-to-one aides and paraprofessionals.
Responsibilities
Assist with self-sufficiency training and maintenance of skills for a child with physical disabilitiesEncourage, support, and educate the student by assisting in the performance of activities of daily living necessary for his/her comfort, well-being, and integrityAssist student in managing and maintaining their environment to meet special physical and psychological needsHelp student with preparing for and moving to other classrooms, school activities, outside activities and arrival and departure from schoolAttend to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needsOperate and assist in the use of student's mobility devicesAssist student with clothing, grooming, health habits, and bathroom activities as needed
