The incumbent will be responsible for developing novel upstream processes to support cell-free DNA synthesis. The Senior Scientist will apply Molecular Biology and bioprocess engineering technologies to develop DNA template production system to support mRNA vaccine projects. The ability to apply diverse techniques in molecular biology including various PCR methods, gene editing, and experiences to optimize enzymatic reactions are crucial for this position.
The Senior Scientist will be expected to summarize, evaluate the study results, and document experimental processes. It is also expected that the incumbent will perform analytical characterization of macromolecules at various process steps and reactions. Careful documentation of work and presentation of data is required.The job function requires judgment and innovation to achieve a solution within standard practices and procedures.Responsibilities will include conducting experiments, tests, and analysis as part of a variety of research and development activities.
How You Will Achieve It
Develop novel processes for DNA template synthesis.
Design experiments to optimize cell-free DNA template production with enzymatic reactions.
Explore new enzymes for DNA template production and purification.
Scale-up cell-free DNA template production to meet commercial needs.
Design of vectors and recombinant constructs for expression of recombinant proteins in microorganisms or cell culture.
Design constructs/mutations to engineer more effective enzymes.
Be capable of working on multiple projects at the same time.
Investigate and evaluate new technologies in Molecular Biology field.
Generate new concepts from reading the scientific literature.
Organize, tabulate, and interpret data. Present data summaries within the group, project teams and at the department level.
Fully document experiments in notebooks in a timely and compliant manner.
Works directly with analysts to actively trouble-shoot activities.
Complete all required training courses in compliance with departmental requirements and follow appropriate safety practices in the workplace.
Collaborate with colleagues within Vaccine Research and Development organization including Bioprocess Fermentation, Analytical, and Formulation Development groups.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must-Have
PhD degree with 0-3 years relevant experience.
A strong background in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry.
Acts as SME on the application of molecular and microbial genetics to various industrial microorganisms for plasmid and recombinant protein production.
Hands on experience with DNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, nested PCR, and gene editing.
Experiences with optimization of enzymatic reactions.
Proficiency with personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software is desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
Ability to design, organize and execute multiple complex experiments simultaneously and independently.
Collaborate in a team environment and work across group and department boundaries to achieve project objectives.
Compile, organize and analyze large dataset and conceive of novel ideas from the data.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
DNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, nested PCR, and gene editing.
DNA and RNA sequence analysis.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $88,300.00 to $147,100.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
