Job Description

Research Associate - Union Beach, NJ

 

  • The incumbent will be responsible for laboratory bench work involved in material characterization.
  • Participate in the lab work of material characterization at IFF R&D.
  • Primary activities include; preparation of analytical samples used in biodegradation analysis and material characterization analysis under general direction of senior technical staff, following instructions and experiment protocols in lab operations, accurately recording experimental data, and observe all lab safety rules and regulations.  This will include communicating with supervisor to understand the goal and scope of the work, setting task priorities, interacting with other scientists in the lab, learning and following the established lab procedures.  
  • This position will require a good understanding of general chemistry, chemical lab operations, and lab safety. Use of fume hood, analytical balance, centrifuge, separatory funnels, and other lab equipment are required.  Attention to detail and familiarity with computer software such as MS Word, Excel etc., are expected. 

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Perform sample preparation to purify testing substances                                                   
  • Conduct bench-level experiments in material characterization lab.
  • Record experimental data in lab notebook and enter data in computer software.
  • Discuss experimental details and results with supervisor and colleagues.     
  • Coordinate characterization, quantitative analyses and biodegradation test with other laboratories.                
     
Job Requirements

Required:

 

  • BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or other lab-based scientific disciplines.
  • Quick learner and be extremely well organized, detail-oriented with excellent at record-keeping. 
  • Demonstrated lab experiences in lab research projects, internships, or prior employments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with supervisors and coworkers to complete assigned projects.

 

Preferred Skills:

 

  • Effectively and safely operate to execute assigned projects.
  • Ability to adjust tasks priority of the assigned projects.
  • Experienced in separation techniques such as separation funnels and centrifugation and use of organic solvents.
