Summary

Responsible for the oversight of Apheresis Program to include clinical and scheduling staff. Provides leadership and support to a small group of supervisory staff. Formulates strategic, operational, and budgetary plans for a complex patient care service. Integrates Apheresis services with other appropriate services such as medicine, pediatrics, neurology, surgery, CVDL, outside agencies, etc. The Apheresis Director has direct responsibility for administrative aspects of Apheresis inpatient and outpatient operations, human resources, and strategic planning. Responsible for monitoring adherence to hospital and departmental. policies/procedures. Performs other related administrative and professional duties as assigned.

Role Accountabilities Include:

  • Develops, supervises, and implements the budget for the Apheresis Program.
  • Is responsible for all Apheresis personnel.
  • Assists in overseeing the programs development.
  • Reviews and approves all SOPs, Policies, and Forms relevant to the Apheresis Department.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the Quality Management Program to include oversight of the Quality Assessment and Process Improvement (QAPI) Program.
  • Collaborates with the Accreditation Department to ensure compliance and survey readiness for Requests for Information (RFI), insurance surveys, and onsite surveys.
  • Responsible for coordination of activities and ensures continual compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provides clinical and regulatory expertise for managed care contracts.
  • Responsible for staff education, competency, proficiency, and training.
  • Responsible for daily operations of the Apheresis Program.
  • Responsible for scheduling and billing of patients and donors.

Qualifications

  • RN or MT preferred
  • 5 years of previous experience in a large, complex clinical setting in an academic medical center preferred.
  • Experience in the area of clinical regulations, clinical operations, and clinical standards in an Apheresis Program.
  • Knowledge of laboratory management including CLIA and FDA regulations and AABB standards.
