The Interior Designer serves as an Assistant Space Manager with responsibility for the administration of space planning and interior design services. The Assistant Space Manager performs specialized work and applies advanced knowledge of assigned space management, interior design duties, regulations, policies, codes, CAD standards, and procedures associated with interior design and project implementation for commercial and/or federal buildings. Serves as a contributor on significant work activities or as a member of a team or as a project manager. May provide instruction and guidance to less-experienced professionals on various projects and work assignments; tracks and analyzes data to ensure compliance with policies and procedures; identifies, analyzes, and recommend solutions for complex/difficult problems; and recommend improvements to processes and on space planning and interior design.
Work tasks include:
Develops final recommendations for space planning and furnishings/equipment arrangements, wall, window, floor, and ceiling treatments, sound attenuation, furnishings, fixtures, millwork, color, finishes, hardware, art, accessory, and graphic/signage programs, and lighting, electrical, and communications requirements.
Applies experience and advanced knowledge in space planning and design services, including programming, space layouts, construction drawing, interior design and technical furniture and finish specification. Utilize AutoCad software, Archibus FM, and other technology to support space planning and interior design work. Independently plans, schedules, and accomplishes space designs, construction/alteration projects, and furniture designs for major complex projects throughout the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC).
Serves as a Contracting Officer's Representative for the procurement of small to mid-sized furniture projects and is responsible for producing drawings, specifications, and interior design packages in compliance with AMS. Applies knowledge of budgeting, contracting, work scheduling, procurement and associated skills involved in project planning and oversight.
Reviews furniture vendor/manufacturer-provided furniture bid packages, drawings, specifications, and finish samples to ensure they are consistent with FAA-provided concept designs and specifications; conducts on-site visits and field inspections; monitors contractors' and suppliers' progress; oversees installation of furnishings, fixtures, and equipment; prepares lists of deficiencies for correction.
Resolves relationship problems and/or conflicts that impede progress; ensures all involved parties work effectively toward timely completion of the project. If needed, refers to the manager or other professionals problems that require their attention. May help them develop solutions.
May serve as a project manager on projects of a moderately complex scope; monitors the segments of a project assigned to other analysts and oversees the results.
Designs alterations of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs. Identifies, researches, and creatively solves problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment. Performs services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning, and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings. Prepares drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Coordinates and integrates the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context. Manages projects, develops cost estimates, evaluates bid proposals, reviews construction documents, participates in on-site construction visits, conducts pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, and develops standards for efficient space management, etc.
