Summary
Painter performs skilled work at the journeyman level in painting buildings, fixtures and various equipment. An employee in this classification applies paint to a variety of surfaces using a brush or spray gun. Work involves the preparation of surfaces and materials for painting, occasional hazardous jobs from scaffolding, and requires individual skilled performance in accordance with standard trade practices. Employees receive assignments orally or through written job orders, and work is inspected by a foreman or similar skilled superior while in process and upon completion.
Responsibilities
- Scrape, sandpaper, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting.Â
- Clean walls to ensure proper adherence.Â
- Cover surfaces with cloth or plastic to ensure protection.Â
- Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.Â
- Erect scaffolding, movable and immovable staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas; moves furniture and equipment as necessary.Â
- Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting.Â
- Work on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls.Â
- Apply paint, vinyl and wallpaper including special papers and fabrics to walls, furniture and structures.Â
- Prepare surfaces and apply paints, stains, shading stains, and clear finishes.Â
- Remove previous paint by means of sandblasting, scraping, sanding, hydro-blasting and steam-cleaning.Â
- Inspect and refurbish wall surfaces by means of the appropriate materials.Â
- Read blueprints and drawings of the premise for the execution of painting job.Â
- Order paint supplies and materials.Â
- Submit finished work orders to supervisor.Â
- Operate and maintain various power and manual tools.Â
- Follow established protection procedures.Â
- Clean up job site after work and return equipment and tools.Â
- Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).Â
- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education
High School diploma is strongly preferred.
Credentials
Valid journeyman level license is preferred.
