About the opportunity

We’re looking for a Title Examiner to join our team.  You will be responsible for examining a wide range of residential title orders. This role will prepare initial title commitment documentation based on the application of procedural guidelines including, examining searches and instrument copies, clearing title problems and preparing commitments. Duties include examining the chain of title for all of the company's title orders, identifying and resolving title issues, determining insurability and issuing title commitments.

Note: This role is a temporary, full-time position expected to last 120 days and possibly convert to permanent status.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Review title report for accuracy, completeness, and insurability, examine complex transactions requiring a high level of title expertise
  • Apply state and underwriter guidelines in the examination process, including the ability to interpret state law and court opinions as relating to land title conveyance
  • Provide underwriting interpretation and within established guidelines
  • Abstract and analyze records and information, including but not limited to vesting deeds, mortgages/deeds of trust, judgments, restrictions, easements, vital statistics, plats, and surveys.
  • Identify and resolve complex title defects, solving them through collaborating with underwriters and other members of the Escrow Team as applicable
  • Reading contracts, commitments, and order in preparation for the closing
  • Review signed documents for compliance with federal, state, and local law and company policies
  • Reading through legal documents and their effects on properties

About you:

  • 3+ years of experience working on title transactions
  • Knowledge of legal documents with the ability to analyze and evaluate documents as they relate to residential real estate closings 
  • Experience with Qualia strongly preferred. (Softpro, Ramquest, Resware, LandTech, or similar software will also be considered)
  • Experience with Title Data (TIMS) strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of title vesting and experience with title reports and policies
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. Deadline-driven.
  • Resilient team player - we are a start-up so the ability to roll with the punches and adapt to change is key


Pay and Benefits

  • Compensation: $36/hr
