Colorado Springs Utilities is hiring a Journey Lineworker (Troubleshooter) to support operational needs and maintenance on our electric distribution system. You will leverage your journey-level line expertise to perform electric distribution and transmission switching during scheduled and emergency repairs and clearances. You will also be responsible for responding quickly to emergency outages and calls for service while following established field-switching procedures. The work that you do ensures the ongoing reliability and safety of our distribution system serving more than 500,000 customers.

A day in the life of a Journey Lineworker (Troubleshooter) may include:

  • Assisting in the maintenance of underground and overhead power lines and equipment
  • Responding to underground outages to assist in service restoration

  • Setting up clearances and hotline holds for emergency power restoration

  • Performing distribution and transmission switching to accommodate repairs and clearances

  • Performing clean-up and safe handling of hazardous waste from system equipment

  • Testing equipment and components for damage, reliability, and safety

  • Scheduling outages with residential and commercial customers and electricians for both scheduled and emergency repairs

Please note that this position requires working on-call, overtime, weekends, holidays, etc. as business needs dictate.

What to Expect and Who You Are

The hiring process for this position will consist of a technical phone interview and, if successful, final onsite testing and interviews to determine your viability for the job. If the following resonates with your experience and areas of expertise, we want to hear from you

  • Demonstrated experience (i.e., two or more years) in a journey-level line technician or lineworker capacity

  • Completion of a Line Technician Apprenticeship program

  • Possession of a valid CDL Class A license

We are also interested in your knowledge and proficiency with any of the following:

  • Knowledge of electrical system principles, voltage requirements, equipment, installation, and maintenance

  • Knowledge of metering principles and practices

  • Skill in installing and maintaining electrical distribution and transmission systems

  • Ability to interpret specifications, schematics, and written instructions
