The Assistant Nurse Manager serves as an assistant with line authority to the unit nurse manager in providing leadership and direction to nursing staff. He/she is accountable for adhering to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice; demonstrating leadership in improving nursing care; and the administration, management, supervision and evaluation of both nursing care and nursing personnel on his/her designated unit and as assigned for the Medical Center. Demonstrates, promotes, creates and ensures a culturally diverse workforce in which the values and needs of all individuals are respected. Assistant Nurse Manager provides an environment that fosters employees to perform to their full individual potential. The role responsibilities include but are not limited to: direct caregiver, care coordinator, educator, advocate, and consultant. The incumbent provide 60% administrative support and 40% direct patient care support.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work.
Assigns work to assigned personnel based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of assigned personnel.
Evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.
Makes recommendations for appointments, advancements or reassignments of assigned personnel.
Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to assigned personnel on work and administrative matters.
Hears and resolves complaints of assigned personnel and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors.
Recommends disciplinary action where appropriate.
Identifies developmental and training needs of assigned personnel and providing or making provision for such development and training.
Responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, interviewing applicants. employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards.
Works in partnership with the union and adheres to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) principles.
Develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians.
Cross-covers Nurse Manager will be designated to handle administrative and clinical issues, such as staffing coverage, granting leave, and patient and/or staff issues.
