Job Summary/Basic Function
Temporary, part-time instructor responsible for teaching THEA 120: Stagecraft. The position includes setting learning objectives and evaluation of student learning outcomes in the process of introducing students to technical theatre, teaching construction and handling of scenery, scenic painting, stage lighting and the proper, safe use of tools and equipment. As well, the position involves coordinating students’ shop hours with the University Theatre Technical Director.

Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes for each workload hour taught, at such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students.

This position requires in-person instruction on Millersville University’s campus.

Contingency: This position is contingent upon sufficient enrollments in assigned classes.

Responsibilities include:

Teaching:
setting learning objectives and evaluation of student learning outcomes in the process of introducing students to technical theatre, teaching construction and handling of scenery, scenic painting, stage lighting and the proper, safe use of tools and equipment.
coordinating students’ shop hours with the University Theatre Technical Director.

Scholarship:
In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.

Service:
Serve on departmental and university-wide committees.
Participate in program-related projects and/or teaching related professional development.

Required Qualifications
Relevant Master’s Degree in Theatre or related field or relevant professional experience.
Experience working in an academic theatrical environment.
Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.
Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Successful interview.
Successful teaching demonstration.
Successful completion of three background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching Stagecraft at a college or university.
Prior college-level teaching experience.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Communication and Theatre, in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, is comprised of 13 faculty members, 5 support staff and over 230 students. It offers a B.S. in Speech Communication with concentrations in Public Relations, Digital Communication and Cultural Studies, Journalism and Theatre; a B.S. in Media Arts Production, and a B.A. in Entertainment Technology. It is housed in two buildings that include outstanding media production and live event facilities and equipment.

Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 10 pounds without assistance.
lift student paper bundles, small boxes, scene shop equipment and materials.
Must be able to occasionally lift/pull/push heavier items with assistance.
Able to record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the instruction of courses.
Teach courses face-to-face and online if necessary at the higher education level using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, using online tools and shop equipment and other appropriate tools via appropriate modes of education delivery.
Use computer for email, obtain information on web sites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, university and community.
No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
