The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS), a flagship Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care provider, is one of the largest and busiest VA medical centers in the country. Its two hospitals, located in Little Rock and North Little Rock, anchor a broad spectrum of inpatient and outpatient health care services, ranging from disease prevention through primary care, to complex surgical procedures, to extended rehabilitative care. This System serves as a teaching facility for more than 1,500 students and residents enrolled in approximately 65 educational affiliates; its principal affiliate is the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The System is reaching out to Veterans through its Community-Based Outpatient Clinics in Conway, El Dorado, Hot Springs, Mena, Mountain Home, Pine Bluff, Russellville and Searcy; its Home-Based Primary Care Center in Hot Springs; and the Veterans Day Treatment Center for homeless veterans in downtown Little Rock. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
The Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) for South Central VA Health Care Network (VISN 16) incumbent serves within the VA Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and has full programmatic authority for all professional, management and administrative aspects of the complex, multi-site, VISN 16 MIRECC. The mission of the VISN 16 MIRECC is to promote equity in engagement, access, and quality of MH care for Veterans facing barriers to care, especially rural Veterans. The position is responsible for all professional, management and administrative aspects of MIRECC, a complex research, education, and clinical consultation program having on-going multiple funded research studies and education/clinical projects and programs. The duties are but not limited to the following:
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Focuses research, education and clinical efforts on mental health and quality of life projects involving: rural populations, CBOCs, telehealth and technology, access to care, suicide prevention, integrated care, implementation, partnership building, community engagement, and vulnerable populations with access barriers
The Director has full programmatic authority for all professional, management and administrative aspects of the complex, multi site, VISN 16 MIRECC
Responsible for managing and directing the work of multiple program areas and interdisciplinary teams within the VISN 16 MIRECC organizational structure ensuring goals and objectives are accomplished that support the mission of quality health care services provided to the Veteran patients.
Has supervisory responsibility for subordinates and responsibility for all professional, management, and administrative aspects of the VISN 16 MIRECC
Supervises operational resource management, including staffing requirements, space, equipment, projects, and supplies in line with strategic goals of the VISN 16 MIRECC and the VA
Manages the comprehensive and required VISN 16 MIRECC annual review and renewal applications/review (i.e., five-year renewal), which establishes specific goals, objectives and benchmarks for each component and research core and measures outcomes and effectiveness based on the over-arching strategic direction of the Center
Manages and directs the work of others, within a complex, multi-site organization, to accomplish program goals and objectives, and able to devise ways to adapt work operations to new and changing programs, staffing, and budget requirements
