Starting Rate: $39.98/hour

 

The Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintenance and repair of vehicle mechanical, electrical and electronic systems . Responsible for the machining of mechanical components as needed for repairs as well as operating milling machines, lathes, universal grinding machines, etc.; or, cutting fabricating and welding services in the repair and construction of machinery, transit equipment, tools and other special equipment, or, repair, modification, troubleshooting, overhaul and testing of the vehicle trucks, brakes coupler, compressor, etc. The technician may be required to do a combination of the above.

 

  • Works independently or under the direction of the Vehicle Supervisor and within approved procedures and technical methods to accomplish scheduled or unscheduled maintenance of AirTrain vehicles, support vehicles and shop equipment.
  • Performs in-depth troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical or electronic problems for AirTrain vehicles (including revenue service vehicles as well as support vehicles both rail bound and road/rail) to restore vehicles to service.
  • Interprets maintenance manuals, blueprints, schematics and drawings, and prepares drawings or schematics to communicate with others in performance of work.
  • Performs tests and prepares reports as required.
  • Makes recommendations for hardware and procedural changes that become evident during performance of maintenance tasks.
  • Provides instruction and direction to junior staff, apprentices and/or Servicepersons as required and assumes responsibility for work carried out under this direction.
  • Performs first-line troubleshooting, train coordination and maintenance duties under the direction of the Vehicle Supervisor or the Leadhand Vehicle Technician.
  • Handles emergencies and failures in accordance with established procedures through immediate response and quick action.
  • Completes assigned tasks to Company or industry standards using approved work practices and procedures. Accounts for all time and materials used in completing each task, signing off the work as being completed to standard.
  • Operates revenues service vehicles and support vehicles to include configuring and hostles trains and ensures that trains entering revenue service are fully serviceable.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures and safety rules.
  • Participates in regular training to maintain the required level of knowledge related to maintenance techniques and procedures and trains subordinate personnel as required.
  • Works variable hours and shifts.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
