The Preschool Teacher Aide performs a combination of the following instructional tasks in the classroom to assist teaching staff.

  • Per requirements of DHS Registry for licensed center-based child care providers, on-going training shall be completed annually and consisting of 16 hours in at least 2 of the following approved topic areas:
  • a. Physical of the young child.
  • b. Care of the sick child.
  • c. Child nutrition.
  • d. Child growth and development.
  • e. Learning activities and play.
  • f. Family engagement.
  • g. Managing challenging behaviors.
  • h. Prevention of child maltreatment and abuse.
  • i. Children with special needs.
  • j. First aid and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • k. Health and safety.
  • l. Child care business or program management.
  • m. Community resources.
  • n. Safe sleep training (require if caring for children who are less than one year old).

  • For non-credit bearing on-going training completed to be recognized, a copy of a certificate issued from the training organization or trainer for each training, needs the following information:
  • 1. Name/title of the training
  • 2. Organization/source providing the training
  • 3. Date of training
  • 4. Number of training hours completed
  • 5. Name of the trainee, and
  • 6. Name and signature of the trainer
  •  
  • For credit-bearing on-going training completed, a copy of the college transcript shall be submitted to HR and the PATCH Registry office. PATCH will review the transcript for acceptance in meeting the proposed on-going training requirement. *All trainings and college transcript should be submitted to the YWCA HR and Child Care Director department.
  •  
  • Perform duties related to the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program as required. For the maintenance of the food program;
  • a. Point of Service attendance.
  • b. Prepare and serve breakfast.
  • c. Prepare and serve afternoon snack.
  • d. Serve lunch.
  • e. Add total breakfast, lunch and snacks served daily.
  • f. Shop for food items.
  • g. Calculate the amount of food items needed for breakfast/snacks.
  • h. Print out menus and post on bulletin board.
  • This list does not cover all duties that are required for the food program.
 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education

This position requires a high school diploma (or GED or high school equivalence certificate). A post-secondary certificate (awarded for training completed after high school) is preferred.
