Automotive Technician
This mid level position has the opportunity for promotion to an "A" level Technician in our shop. We prefer to promote from within, and currently there are 3 technicians in our shop that used to be in this position.
B Level Technician: The qualified technician must have a mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose auto and tire service type work. Experience with lube, oil, filter, preventative maintenance, brakes, tires & alignment is preferred.
At least 1 or more ASE Certification is preferred, but not required. Willingness to get 1 within the first 90 days is required.
We offer excellent pay and benefits:
Pay ranges from $25 to $32 depending on experience. This is HOURLY compensation... WE DO NOT PAY FLAT-RATE
Our Technicians work a reliable, Monday to Friday, 8a-5p schedule.
Paid Vacation -15 PTO Days per Calendar year
Company healthcare with employer contribution
Retirement benefits after 1 year, with 3% company match.
Short and Long term disability insurance after 1 year.
A company with a 40-year track record of service means stability. We, and your job, will be here tomorrow.
But even more importantly, we respect, appreciate, and encourage our people. We know how hard they’ve worked to learn their trade and we try to build an environment where they can do their best work. We have an extremely low turnover rate because once someone starts working with us, they stay.
Our schedule and pay are designed to let you do the thorough, quality work you got into the industry to do. We believe Commission and Flat-rate pay blur the line of honesty. You’ll never be asked to hurry through a job to meet book time, or perform an unneeded service of any kind. We want careful, conscientious employees who care for our clients like they’d care for their friends and family.
Our Technicians are in the driver’s seat when it comes to repair recommendations. You’ll be asked to evaluate the vehicle’s condition, decide what it ACTUALLY needs, and tell the Service Advisor. They’ll prioritize your advice and talk with the clients about it, but our service recommendations are built on YOUR professional opinion of real-world requirements. No more doing pointless fluid changes because the Advisor recommended it from a service menu to meet a profit goal
We discourage the competitive, every-tech-for-themselves mentality of Flat Rate shops. You’ll be part of a team of ASE-Certified or ASE-Master-Certified who provide excellent resources to figure out problems and expand your own skills.
We have the lowest Tech-stress levels in the business because our philosophy is more cars, less deadlines. We work by appointment and most of our clients drop their vehicles off for the day, so there’s no more will-wait brake jobs or will-wait diagnosis. We want the job done right, so we give you the time to do it.
Tom Dwyer Automotive Services has been built on a foundation of integrity, quality, and service for over 40 years. While we certainly care about profit, we aren’t a profit-driven shop. We believe providing top-quality service with our CLIENTS’ INTERESTS FIRST, brings the long term, happy clients that make us grow… profit will come. It’s a philosophy that’s made us the largest independent auto repair shop in Portland. It demands excellence from everyone on our staff, and we return that commitment with the respect they deserve. If you think you can contribute to the Tom Dwyer team, please send over an email (with resume if you have one.) explaining your experience level and why you want to come work with us.
