Safety Intern

Primary Purpose
To experience Mountaire's culture first-hand and provide additional exposure of Mountaire's family-oriented work environment. Fulfill all designated duties within each specialized area of operation for the duration of the internship. This program is intended to provide learning opportunities by working hands-on with mentors and completing assigned projects. This project involves validating current lockout/tagout (LOTO) and Confined Space procedures as required by OSHA regulations. Currently, these procedures exist for each facility. The Intern will first verify that no procedures are missing based on equipment and space inventory. Second, the Intern will be actively in the facility visiting the equipment to conduct a visual observation to ensure the LOTO and/or Confined Space procedure established is correct. If corrections are needed, they will propose edits that will be approved by the facility safety representative. For any equipment identified not having either a LOTO and/or Confined Space written procedure, they will be required to draft a procedure for approval.
Primary Project
- Work/Meet with representatives from all departments across the organization.
- Become familiar with equipment safety, policies and procedures
- Review current LOTO procedures and inventory
- Develop draft LOTO procedures for any that are missing.
- Review current Confined Space procedures and inventory.
- Develop draft Confined Space procedures that are missing.
Duties/Activities Required by Job
- Complete assigned project identified by department mentor
- Attend weekly seminar series across different Mountaire facilities
- All interns must be available to travel to Delaware during the last week of the program for final presentations (August 5 - 7, 2025)
- All interns are required to complete a 10 minute presentation on their project at the conclusion of summer. Presentations will take place in Millsboro, DE at the Administrative Building during the week of August 4-8th.
- All interns must complete a mid-way evaluation (week 5) along with a final evaluation (week 10)
Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled and pursuing an Associate or Bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, visit various locations (Hatchery, Feed Mill, Processing Plant, Administration) to validate LOTO procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word.
- Work in a team environment, Self-Motivated and accepting of challenges and detail oriented.
- Outgoing with a positive attitude, willingness to ask questions, learn, and engage with the management, maintenance and hourly workforce.
- Preference will be given to students pursuing a Safety & Health or related degree.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
