Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

The Physician/Medicine Supervisor position is located at the respective Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) for which this position is responsible for: American Samoa, Guam, Leeward, Hilo, Kauai, Kona, Maui or Windward. The incumbent will serve as direct supervisor to various medical staff such as, but not limited to: Primary Care Providers (PCP), Clinical Social Workers, Pharmacists, Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) staff, and other Licensed Independent Practitioners not otherwise designated. Incumbent will collaborate with Business Manager, VA Nursing, Mental Health and Geriatrics, Rehab and Extended Care (GREG) services and community stakeholders to ensure smooth functioning of the clinic and provision of outstanding and timely care. Incumbent will also provide direct patient care according to approved clinical privileges at VA PIHCS with an expected average clinical time of at least 70%. Incumbent is clinically and administratively responsible to the CBOC Chief with dotted line the Associate Director of Primary Care.

Major duties include but are not limited to:
Leading clinical staff in projects directed toward Performance Measure clinical outcome targets in access, quality of care, efficiency, process improvement, and patient satisfaction.
Directly supervising various clinical staff.
Accountable for performance appraisals, ensuring mandatory training is completed, VATAS, communicating VA mandates and policies, and ensuring compliance.
Responsible for Human Resource actions, which may include: Employee relations Labor relations, Consultations, Recruitment/Staffing and SEIU bargaining unit notifications.
Responsible for appropriate medical education opportunities including, but not limited to: medical students, interns, residents, research, and in-service trainings.

CUSTOMER SERVICE REQUIREMENTS:

Meets the needs of customers while supporting the medical center and service missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all medical center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.




AGE, DEVELOPMENT, AND CULTURAL NEEDS OF PATIENTS REQUIREMENT:

The focus of this position is on the provision of patients and families/caregiver. Responsibility for patients that might require alternative approaches to assessment, treatment, and education. This position requires the incumbent to possess or develop an understanding of the needs of these types of patients. Sensitivity to the special needs of all patients in respect to age, developmental requirements, and culturally related factors must be consistently achieved.




COMPUTER SECURITY:

Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, Federal regulations, VA statuses and policy, and VHA policy. Protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc. Uses word processing software to execute several office automations functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files, activating printers; inserting and deleting text, formatting letters, reports, and memoranda; and transmitting and receiving e-mail. Uses the Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA) to access information in the Medical Center Computer System.
