The client is a leading organization in electricity generation, focusing on natural gas and geothermal resources, they are seeking a qualified candidate for a pivotal role in its engineering division. The client's extensive fleet of power plants underscores their commitment to clean, efficient, and environmentally responsible energy generation.

Position Summary:

The selected candidate will play a key role in supporting engineering and modeling endeavors for utility-scale energy storage projects. Collaboration with various teams, including origination, development, E&C, and O&M, will be essential in driving the advancement of energy storage initiatives. The individual will be responsible for ensuring adherence to technical specifications, codes, and standards, while also optimizing project timelines and costs.

Responsibilities:

Development Engineering:
  • Generate conceptual designs and layouts for ongoing and upcoming development projects.
  • Lead technical analyses for feasibility studies and project assessments.
  • Provide technical support for grid connection and regulation aspects of energy storage.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations while enhancing project efficiency and performance.
  • Support development efforts to resolve regulatory, permitting, and technical issues promptly and cost-effectively.
    Technology:
    • Maintain regular communication with vendors' technical personnel to stay updated on technology trends and product specifications.
    • Actively participate in industry standards committees to remain at the forefront of evolving standards and specifications.
    • Provide guidance on various battery technologies and industry best practices to internal teams.
    • Evaluate available and emerging storage technologies, communicating relevant developments and associated risks.
      Project Management:
      • Assist in developing technical specifications for procurement processes.
      • Contribute to the formulation of contracting strategies and terms.
      • Review technical aspects of proposals and provide recommendations.
        Engineering and Standards:
        • Establish and uphold engineering criteria, design standards, and specifications for projects.
        • Oversee engineering requirements and design, ensuring adherence to standards and timely delivery.
        • Review and approve consultant work to maintain consistency and cost-effectiveness.
        • Ensure the highest level of environmental health and safety in all engineering and design aspects.
          Other Responsibilities:
          • Provide technical support for potential M&A activities related to energy storage projects.
          • Support the construction team in implementing energy storage technology.
          • Assist in enhancing installation and commissioning procedures.
          • Collaborate with the O&M team to optimize the operation of energy storage systems.
            Required Qualifications:
            • Experience in grid-connected battery energy storage systems (BESS) or inverter-based generation.
            • Proficiency in AutoCAD and other CAD software for conceptual layouts.
            • Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and standards.
            • Experience in designing and delivering grid-scale bulk energy storage technology solutions.
            • Proficiency in the full Microsoft Office suite, with a high proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
            • Strong technical, analytical, and quantitative skills.
            • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
            • Strong interest in renewable energy and utility business.
            • Willingness and ability to travel.
            • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering; advanced degrees preferred.
            • 2-5 years of relevant experience.
              Nice to Have:
              • Familiarity with control systems, SCADA, HMI, EMS, and networking protocols.
              • Understanding of mechanical systems relevant to energy storage systems.
              • Experience in power systems analysis software packages.
              • Knowledge of engineering economics and design optimization.
              • Experience in wind or solar system installation or design.
