These Psychologist/Clinical Psychologist positions are in the Mental Health Service Line at the VA Medical Center, located at the Bangor, Portland, or Togus, Maine locations. These positions are full-time at 40 hours per week.
MAJOR DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Provides a full range of psychological assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders, particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients.
- Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others.
- Provides comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
- Provides consultation to professional staff within Mental Health Service and the VA generally and to community providers, concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for patients.
- Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients.
- Functions independently as a member of the Mental Health Service, with full clinical privileges. Assumes complete professional responsibility for his/her clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.
- Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs to effectively coordinate services.
- Complies with national and local performance measures.
- Complies with all CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedures (e.g., entering diagnostic and procedure codes).
- Provides clinical supervision and instruction for pre- doctoral psychology interns and post-doctoral residents.
Work Schedule: Full-time; Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.
