Executive Director

Job Summary: Full time year-round position, directing night shelter for women experiencing homelessness, open six months each year (October-March), summer day program, follow-up program for former residents, and rapid re-housing project for women and families experiencing homelessness. Rebecca’s Tent was founded in 1982 by volunteers from Congregation Shearith Israel and has since supported over 2,000 women and families.

Reports to: Chairperson of the Shelter Board of Directors

Location: Congregation Shearith Israel, Morningside section of Atlanta.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in human services or related field (Master’s Degree preferred)

Strong organizational, management and leadership skills

Experience in grant-writing and fundraising

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

Strong interpersonal skills

Basic computer skills, including Microsoft office and the internet.

Experience in public relations and social networking.

A passion for serving individuals experiencing homelessness, creating a culture that allows for self-sufficiency and growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversees the operations of the winter shelter and the following additional programs: summer day program, follow-up case management, rental assistance, and rapid re-housing.

Serves as point of contact for women seeking services, conducts intake interviews, and determines eligibility for entry into the organization’s programs.

Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff, volunteers, and interns; foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and professional development.

Manage coverage for residential shelter and process payroll for staff and contractors.

Monitor Resident Manager work performance and conduct annual performance evaluations.

Ensure adequate funding for shelter operations through grant-writing and fundraising events.

Identify new funding opportunities, research grant prospects, and prepare grant proposals and funding

applications in alignment with organizational priorities.

Volunteer management (identify, train, cultivate new and existing volunteers).

Monitor and manage inventory.

Monitor the facility for orderliness, cleanliness, need for repairs and make arrangements for professional

cleaning and repairs as needed.

Maintain and enforce current shelter policies and/or procedures .

Maintain knowledge of community resources and link clients to services provided by community

organizations.

Coordinates programming (i.e., shelter meetings, empowerment sessions, computer training, and resume coaching)

 

Administrative Duties:

Develop and manage the organization’s annual budget, maintaining budget and provide monthly financial reports to the Board.

Ensure financial stability of the organization and compliance with the organization’s financial policies.

Ensure that required client data is entered into ClientTrack database-HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) and ensure compliance with HMIS standards.

Maintain organization’s database: collect names of volunteers, in-kind donors, guests at events and add new names; and make corrections.

Grants management (prepare and submit grant disbursement requests and reports as required).

Maintain copies of grant-related documentation such as applications, award letters, monthly reports, etc in the shelter office.

Monthly Financial Reconciliation (supported by outside consultant).

Coordinates audits for external stakeholders as appropriate (financial and otherwise).

Prepare year-end summary of organization’s successes & challenges and participate in annual program evaluation.

Supports Annual Fund to set campaign goal and create strategy and assist with follow-up activities to reach goal.

Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and special events, to diversify revenue streams and ensure financial sustainability.

Represents organization at meetings of the Atlanta Continuum of Care and Dekalb County Continuum of Care.

Build and maintain strategic partnerships with local agencies, government entities, and community organizations to coordinate efforts and leverage resources in the fight against homelessness and housing insecurity.

Cultivate relationships with individual and institutional donors.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate, in positive and negative situations, with a variety of audiences in a variety of settings (one-to-one, presentations, report writing, etc.)
