Job Description:

The Senior Material Development Scientist is responsible for working cross functionally with Commercial Buyers, Suppliers, Product Development and Supply to identify new ingredient opportunities for the business that are critical to delivering a specified product design. This role is responsible for driving these ingredients through the qualification and approval process ensuring that they are properly assessed regarding any risks to animal well-being or product quality. They will also develop ingredient Specifications which includes identifying the key ingredient attributes to be included on that Specification.

What are we looking for?

Minimum Requirements

  • BS Degree in Animal Nutrition, Food Science, Food Technology or equivalent

  • 0-3 years of experience in the food industry in research and development

  • Experience in functionality/quality of food ingredients - preferably in animal proteins

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in Animal Nutrition, Food Science, Food Technology or related technical field

What will be your key responsibilities?
  • Collaborating with industry suppliers and commercial buyers to identify ingredients that can meet the needs for product design 

  • Identification of new ingredient opportunities to deliver cost savings to the business while maintaining or improving product quality

  • Assessing new ingredients for known hazards and ensuring there are controls implemented to minimize the risk of those hazards

  • Utilize understanding and knowledge linked to the raw material ingredient portfolio across all relevant applications and be key technical point of contact within business

  • Leverage their knowledge of ingredients to help set strategy and identify ways to enhance key product attributes and potential savings

  • Responsible for assessing and managing current ingredients in our portfolio to ensure production of high quality, nutritious products

  • Ensure new ingredient opportunities are aligned with relevant stakeholders within the R&D function

  • Support in alignment and management of stakeholders external to R&D

  • Influences and/or develops technical strategies and best practices

  • Responsible for drafting ingredient Specifications
