This position is in the Office of Economics. The Office of Economics is the chief source of economic expertise and advice at the U.S. International Trade Commission, developing and applying economic analysis relating to international trade and industry competitiveness. The office provides state-of-the-art economic modeling and analyses to the President and Congress to fill critical information gaps for policy makers. The Office helps the Commission remain responsive to evolving global trade issues by developing new analytical methods and expertise to ensure sound and credible analyses.

This position will oversee the Country and Regional Analysis Division (CRD). CRD's expertise centers on empirical analysis, with in-depth knowledge of developments in trade and trade policies, and a focus on country- and region-specific issues. The position will oversee the application of economic tools and analysis in Commission reports to ensure office capabilities can address the emerging needs of policymakers and develop staff to achieve these goals. The position will direct division staff, who combine technical excellence as researchers and authors with project leadership to produce high-quality and relevant reports and research.

The Supervisory International Economist will perform the following major duties:
Provides direction and leadership on economic issues, such as analyzing the impact of trade and trade policy on the U.S. and global markets in reports requested by Congress and the U.S. Trade Representative;
Provides expert advice and counsel to the Commission on a broad spectrum of economic matters;
Plans, directs, and coordinates analytical projects, including the development of innovative approaches for economic analysis;
Provides leadership and supervision for directing and controlling the various functions assigned to the Country and Regional Analysis Division. Exercises management, administrative and technical supervisory responsibilities over the staff of international and industry economists;
Advises the office director on problems involving the relationship of the division work to the overall office responsibilities and makes recommendations for necessary corrective actions;
Makes selections and evaluates the performance of international economists;
Assists subordinate staff in interpreting, analyzing, and evaluating available economic data, to ensure data and analysis is consistent with sound and accepted theory and "state of the art" analytical techniques;
Reviews written reports and memoranda prepared by subordinates;
Orally briefs Commissioners and, as appropriate, other agencies and the public on economic conditions in the specified markets;
Represents the Commission before high level officials of other agencies and organizations.
