CNC Waterjet Operator

Sets up and operates 2 axis or 5 axis computer-numerical control (CNC) machine to cut and fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.

    Job Summary

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.

  • Measures sheet size of material; compares material identification number on work order to material markings and to material computer nest to ensure the proper material is being cut.

  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machine.

  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed and feed

  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.

  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.

  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.

  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems

  • Ensure all required preventive maintenance is completed on waterjet machines and crane.

  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.

  • Performs other duties and assignments as directed.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Basic computer knowledge and skills

  • Ability to operate a forklift

  • Ability to operate a hoist

  • Ability to use measuring instruments including but not limited to calipers, indicators, and scales

    Required Experience and Education

  • High school diploma; up to 3 years related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Math skills: decimals, percentages, fractions

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mylars

  • Basic computer knowledge and skills

  • Prior CNC operator experience is helpful
