Position Overview
The primary duties of the positions will be providing surgical care at the University Hospital on main campus. The department prides itself on close collaborative interaction and features a diverse and inclusive team. The successful applicant will have neurosurgery experience with fellowship training in Functional and/or Epilepsy Neurosurgery. The applicant will join an experienced group of 2 fellowship-trained functional neurosurgeon specialists who will provide mentoring and facilitate transition into an academic practice. Responsibilities include seeing patients in a clinic setting, resident/fellow education and research.
Applicants must have an M.D. degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education, research, and clinical care. Applicants should demonstrate dedicated interest and training in functional/epilepsy neurosurgery along with experience in research in that field, which may be basic, translational, or clinical. Applicants must be eligible to obtain an Ohio medical license.
Department/Division Overview
The Department of Neurological Surgery is composed of 25 physicians, 8 PhD research faculty, a complement of 21 residents, and 6 fellows. Comprised of five academic divisions, including Surgical Neuro-oncology, Skull Base, Spinal Disorders, Cerebrovascular, and Functional, the Department provides comprehensive neurological surgical services throughout the health system. The department is deeply invested in teaching and training, offering six CAST-approved fellowships in complex spine surgery, endovascular, spine oncology, pediatric, skull base and minimally invasive cranial, surgical neuro-oncology, and stereotactic and functional.
Requirements
- MD and completion (upon time of hire) of a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurological surgery.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurological Surgery.
- Eligible for an Ohio Medical License.

Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research. ?
Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.?
Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.?
