Major Duties include but are not limited to:

Clinical:
Provides a full range of psychological assessment services and diagnoses of mental disorders for Veterans referred to or enrolled in the Behavioral Health Clinic and BH specialty clinics.
Performs screening evaluations, intake evaluations, comprehensive diagnostic assessments of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Addiction Assessments, and initial treatment planning for Veterans referred to the PTSD Clinical Team (PCT) and/or Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Programs.
Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others on mental health disorders.
Provides comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and/or group psychotherapy for treatment of PTSD and/or substance abuse health disorders within the PCT and/or SUD Programs.
Provides consultation to professional staff within Erie VAMC and to community providers concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for patients assigned to the Behavioral Health Clinic.
Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients within the PCT/SUD Programs including prompt completion of clinical reminders. The treatment planning process involves cooperation and input from the Veterans and is recovery-focused with an emphasis on wants, needs, and goals as defined by the Veteran.
Functions independently as a member of the Erie VAMC Medical Staff with full clinical privileges. Assumes complete professional responsibility for his/her clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.
Completes suicide screenings, assessments, and safety plans in accordance with Joint Commission and VA guidelines.
Completes psychological testing for which he/she/they has been trained and considered competent as requested by Behavioral Health and Medical Center staff.
May be responsible for completing Compensation and Pension examinations as well as other VA-required examinations.
Offers Veterans the option of receiving their treatment through telehealth technology, when clinically appropriate

Administrative:

The incumbent may supervise, teach, and mentor psychology trainees and participate in the doctoral internship program. Duties are distributed among the psychology staff and include, but are not limited to, providing clinical group and/or individual supervision, the development of programming, preparation of didactic presentations, arrangement of Journal Club reviews, interviews for vacant internship positions, and participation in internship meetings.
Psychologists are often identified as coordinators or points of contact (POC) for a variety of specialty programs. As a Coordinator or POC, the psychologist, in conjunction with their supervisor, will have administrative oversight of the program. Duties may include acting as representative for program and communicating programmatic improvements to BH leadership, the scheduling of patient programming and events, holding program specific meetings, the development of performance improvement activities for program enhancement, tracking program performance, the completion of reports for action items, and oversight of program policies and procedures. Psychologists in these roles collaborate with the Chief, Assistant Chief and/or Behavioral Health Specialty Programs Supervisor to ensure consensus of programmatic goals with the strategic plan, mission, vision, and values of the Erie VAMC.
All staff are encouraged to participate in systems redesign activities and are allotted time to participate in activities that will contribute to the overall efficiency, quality, and satisfaction of Veterans and employees.

:
May serve as a behavioral health representative on Behavioral Health and Medical Center committees and workgroups. May be asked to participate in the selection panels for vacant psychologist positions or other positions as assigned.
May act as a consultant on psychological issues for Behavioral Health providers.
Attends and participates in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings as well as other applicable team meetings.
Participates in peer review processes, assessing the quality of professional psychology standards provided within the medical center and, at times, other VAs.
Advocates for the delivery of trauma-informed care across
Conducts other duties as assigned.
