Purpose: 

The Vice President of Institutional Advancement reports directly to the President and will work in close collaboration with the senior leadership team in making strategic decisions affecting the future of the college. This position will be responsible for all fundraising and development activities and plans, as well as the offices of alumni affairs, foundations, government and corporate relations, parent relations, and public relations.  The successful candidate will forge new relationships to build Chestnut Hill College’s visibility, impact, and financial resources.  The VP will also design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support.

The VP will have primary responsibility for establishing,  implementing, and managing the infrastructure needed to grow the Griffin Fund and lead the ongoing comprehensive campaign effort through the solicitation of major gifts, grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support.  This position will expand and diversify CHC’s donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives.  In addition, the VP will work closely with the Board of Directors and support these members by serving as staff to the Development, Membership, Finance, and Physical Plant Committees and in an advising role to support the fundraising efforts of individual board members.

Requirements: 

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; additional degrees or certifications are desirable.
  • Seven or more years of experience as a professional fundraiser with demonstrated success in soliciting major gifts, and collaborative supervision of a high-performing advancement team.
  • Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated donor relationships.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • A professional and resourceful style with the ability to take the initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presenting compelling messages to public groups.
  • Project leadership qualities – experience in brainstorming, planning, leading, and managing development projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CRM database donor record systems (strong preference for Raisers’ Edge), Internet research tools, email programs, and social media tools.
  • High energy, passion for CHC’s mission, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Responsibilities: 

  • Design a development strategy for CHC in collaboration with the President to include working with the management team to identify funds needed, preferred funding goals, and approaches. 
  • Develop, execute, and manage the strategy and oversee all aspects of the program, including the Griffin Fund, capital/campaign giving, planned giving, grant writing, special events, donor cultivation, research, and stewardship.
  • Establish links and secure financial support from alumni, friends of the College, parents, government agencies, foundations, businesses, and corporations.   Build and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors in all funding categories.
  • Communicate fundraising goals to all College constituencies.
  • Have primary responsibility for the development and execution of all proposals.
  • Build, strengthen, mentor, and develop a high-performing OIA team.  Monitor and regularly report on the progress of the OIA team.
  • Monitor all fundraising information; provide and present statistical analysis to board members, the College leadership team, and College constituencies.
  • Work with the public relations, communication, and donor relations teams to develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors.
  • Prepare annual operating budgets for the OIA departments and monitor the approved allocations.
  • Oversee the organization of fundraising and special events.
  • Undertake all other projects and responsibilities as assigned by the President.
  • Extensive travel may be required.
