Duties

The Supervisory Transportation Specialist serves under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Museum Support Services and performs a variety of duties with primary oversight responsibility for Fleet Management, Vehicle Repair and Transport Operations functions.

In this position, you will:
Develop and maintain automated systems to track and report mobile equipment fleet data related to sustainability initiatives. Supervise, assign work, approve or recommend approval of personnel actions such as recruitment, promotion, awards, disciplinary actions, and terminations. Oversee the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical repots, records and files related to vehicle inspections, maintenance, repairs, personnel, and financial activity. Serve as the Smithsonian Institution representative in transportation related matters with other agencies and boards. Be responsible for the Annual Report required by GSA and the Office of Planning, Management, and Budget for submittal to Congress.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Service. For this position specialized experience is defined as developing and implementing fleet management directives or operational handbooks; managing activities related to the acquisition, utilization, disposal and reporting of mobile assets via reporting tools such as Federal Automotive Statistical Tool (FAST) or Fleet Management Information System (FMIS); planning, managing, operating, and servicing/repairing of mobile assets; leading an organization to modernize and green mobile asset fleet management program; and overseeing a re-fueling program which includes fuel cards or onsite fueling station management.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
