Responsible for coordinating the care and safety of employees to promote the achievement of clinical, financial and organizational outcomes.  Provides direct employee care based on occupational health principles.  Provides direction to other team members to collaborate and perform occupational health services functions, to assist with maintaining these programs when needed by participating in necessary training to promote quality and excellence of care. Has an understanding of medical surveillance programs as directed by federal, state or professional organization regulations.  Basic understanding of case management principles. Ability to manage employee referrals to internal and external providers and services. Basic understanding of employment laws governing regulatory and occupational health such as ADA, FML, Joint Commission and is able to assist in these programs.  Basic understanding of laws governing Alcohol and Drug Testing per NIDA guidelines.  Works collaboratively with multi-disciplinary health care team to optimize team and employee performance.  Promotes improvement in Occupational Health and organizational systems to optimize employee care.  Incorporates and operationalizes goals and objectives of Johns Hopkins Medicine.

 


  • Provides and coordinates direct care to employees within the scope of nursing practice
  • Synthesizes employee information to develop outcome-driven plans using theoretical and experiential and evidence-based knowledge; initiates and/or manages plans of care/referrals for employees.
  • Provides consultation to the nursing staff.
  • Participates in specialized surveillance programs per OSHA or current state and federal regulations or guidelines, to maintain a safe employee and institutional environment
  • Uses case management principles to effectively manage employee healthcare and/or medical surveillance.
  • Evaluates and promotes goal-directed evaluation to meet the employee and institutional needs.
  • Maintains current scientific principles for Nursing Practice, Occupational Health, and Infectious disease. Maintains current legal and regulatory updates pertaining to OSHA, employment law, and Joint Commission

$45/hr


Education:

  • Registered Nurse I & II: Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing. Associates degree or diploma in nursing with certification through American Board of Occupational Health Nursing (ABOHN) as a certified occupational health nurse may be substituted for the Baccalaureate degree. If applicant has an Associate’s degree or diploma in nursing, but is not certified through ABOHN, they must matriculate into a BSN program within the first 2 years of hire

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·         Knowledge of nursing process, social, behavioral, biological and physical science, community health, nursing research and application, leadership management as normally acquired through bachelors’ program in nursing. 

·         Knowledge of principles of occupational health including case management; knowledge of state and federal guidelines/law which regulate the discipline of occupational medicine.

·         Knowledge of epidemiology, infectious and communicable disease per CDC guidelines as it affects the employee and work environment

·         Knowledge of current health care environment.

·         Knowledge of employment law and regulations, e.g., ADA, EEO, FML, Workers’ Compensation

·         Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation management

·         Outstanding clinical assessment and evidenced based practices

·         Ability to analyze, synthesize and summarize data to document clinical findings and make accurate judgments regarding employee health according to accepted evidence-based guidelines

·         Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality of care.

·         Ability to document legibly using a writing instrument.

·         Ability to use a computer keyboard to record/document, analyze/extrapolate and obtain data.

·         Ability to use employee database to document employee medical information.

·         Excellent decision making and problem solving. 

·         Must able to use independent nursing judgment and critical thinking skills.

 

Required Licensure, Certification, On-going Training:

·         Registered nurse licensure in the State of Participating Organization site where assigned (Maryland, District of Columbia or Florida).

·         BLS certification provided by AHA, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network. Must be obtained and maintained as active per AHA guidelines. 

·         Certification through American Board of Occupational Health Nursing (ABOHN) as a Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse-Specialist (COHN-S) preferred.

 

Work Experience:

·         Registered Nurse I: Requires up to 2 years of experience in health care.

 

 

Machines, Tools, Equipment:

·         General physiologic monitoring and technical equipment (glucometer, monitor vital signs, POC testing). 

·         Proficiency in basic computer operation and databases.

 

Position will be a minimum of 3 months
