POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Chair is a faculty member of the College of Health Professions and serves as an academic leader for the program(s) within their assigned discipline for the South University system. The Department Chair reports to the Assistant/Associate College Dean for the College of Health Professions and interfaces with campus academic personnel and/or the campus president for the efficient and effective delivery of their assigned programs. The Chair is responsible for fulfilling all duties in conformity with the policies and procedures of the University as well as those processes and mechanisms developed on the campus at which the program is offered.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

Interview and recommend candidates for faculty and Program Director positions within the department across all campuses.  Ensure that credentials of faculty meet accreditation requirements and are properly documented.Conduct on-site evaluations and monitor annual reviews of all faculty members within the department.Act as a liaison between faculty/Program Directors and the Campus Deans, including the Assistant/Associate College Dean.Supervise and write curricular changes for the department as deemed necessary and in collaboration with other campuses of South University. Serve as an academic advisor.Ensure implementation of appropriate and correct departmental course syllabi.  Information should be derived from the Academic Course Outlines as provided on the South University website.Assist with Credit by Examination for courses within the department.Assist with the development of curricular and policy revisions as requested by the Assistant/Associate College Dean, College Dean, or Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.Assist in the textbook selection process for courses within the department.Assist in the preparation of the annual budget for the department.Ensure that program advisory committees are formed and meet at least twice a year.Adhere to university policies as described in the Employee Handbook, the Faculty Supplement to the Employee Handbook, job description, or other separate guidelines.Perform instructional duties as assigned as outlined in the Faculty job description.Advise campus program directors in academic matters.Complete at least one professional development activity per year.Play an integral role in the student recruitment process and growth of assigned and developing programs.Participate in departmental leadership meetings held by the Assistant/Associate College Dean and College Dean and contribute to the work of this group.Serve the College and University on committees as requested by the Campus Dean, Assistant/Associate College Dean, and College Dean.Oversee and direct the development of new and existing AA programs on identified campuses, including assistance with accreditation processes.Ensure that the AA programmatic curriculum, policies, and procedures meet state and national accreditation standards (ARC-AA).  Perform other duties as assigned by the Campus Dean, Assistant/Associate College Dean, and College Dean.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Earned terminal degree (Master’s level) from an AA program accredited by ARC-AA and regionally accredited university A minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience Practical experience in the discipline of the program with knowledge of current clinical best practicesEvidence of management experience or potentialCurrent State licensureTeaching experience at the college levelExperience with computerized administrative systems. Proficient with the use of standard office applications on personal computers.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret accreditation criteria, state agency regulations, and academic journals.Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees, students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic or business community. Ability to effectively present information to faculty, academic and campus leaders, corporate leaders, and public groups.      

ENVIRONMENT:
