Provide comprehensive nursing care and education for all patients seen within the Gastroenterology Service; utilizes the nursing processes, assesses, plans, implements and evaluates surgical, medical and gastroenterology patients.
Evaluate and communicate the effectiveness/outcomes of nursing interventions; reassesses plan of care based on complexities and dynamics of patient condition; compile, interpret, and incorporate clinical data into a plan of care.
Work proactively with the Gastroenterology team to continually assess patient’s discharge planning needs and ensure timely discharge of patient.
Function independently in administering physician ordered treatments and procedures; operates and monitors highly complex technical equipment.
Provide patient and family counseling in order to provide support and information on possible reactions to medications, health maintenance and illness prevention.
Assist physician with complex procedures; initiates a complete and thorough assessment, of all patient physical, psychological and social needs pre and post procedures.
Recover patients from effects of sedation utilizing the post anesthesia recovery scoring (PARS) system and ensures the patient has met the Aldrete Discharge Criteria prior to transferring or discharging the patient.
