Cardiothoracic Surgeon Opportunity in Historic Bluff City

The Medical Center consists of one main campus and ten community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). The Medical Center is a 1a complexity tertiary care VA healthcare system located in one of the fastest growing Veteran population regions in the United States. The facility provides comprehensive care to almost 69,000 enrolled Veterans in a 52-county area of Western Tennessee, Northern Mississippi, and Northeast Arkansas. It includes 236 inpatient beds with a 26-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs.
Duties include but are not limited to:Responsible for pre-operative, operative, and postoperative care of patients to correct or treat various pathological conditions of the heart and related blood vessels and structures within the chestResponsible for the care of patients with congenital and acquired pathologic conditions within the chest to include the heart, coronary arteries, myocardium, pericardium, lungs, esophagus, chest wall, and diaphragmExperienced and responsible for minimally invasive thoracic surgery and valve reconstructionResponsibilities include clinical activities supporting multi-disciplinary programs in chest oncology, research, teaching, and training residents/fellowsResponsible for providing the patient with risks, benefits and alternative treatments and securing the informed consent of the patient/family prior to conducting invasive proceduresConsultation/referral to other services/sections as appropriateHighlights of this position include:Experience Based Salary $400,000Recruitment Incentive Bonus-Student Loan RepaymentAnnual Performance BonusesWork Schedule: Mon-Fri: 8AM-4:30PMCME Reimbursement: Possible $1000 per year (must be Board Certified)Malpractice Liability Protection with tail coverage and no physician contractsRequirements:Board Eligible/Board Certified in Thoracic SurgeryExperience/training in Cardiovascular and Thoracic SurgeryFull and unrestricted license from ANY stateUS Citizenship: Non-citizens may be considered when it’s not possible to recruit qualified citizensBe proficient in the written and spoken use of the English languageWe Offer:Paid Time Off: 26 paid vacation days, 13 paid sick days, and 11 paid holidays, 5 paid CME attendance daysPay Incentives: Regular salary increases and annual performance bonusHealth, Dental, & Vision InsuranceRetirement: Traditional Federal Pension (5-year vesting) and Federal 401K with up to 5% agency matchNo Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlightingPredictable work schedules with a focus on quality rather than volume
