OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
As an Actuary - Data and Process Optimization Leader, the candidate will be responsible for building, supporting, and maintaining models for actuarial reporting and management purposes, across a broad range of activities (e.g., pricing, modeling, forecasting, planning, profitability, etc.). The candidate will play a pivotal role in key strategic initiatives such as enhancing internal data integrity, assist in external data sourcing and vendor management used for product development, assist in creation and maintenance of automated actuarial processes, all while collaborating cross-departmentally to ensure that underlying processes are built with downstream data impacts in mind. We are seeking an individual with a keen understanding of medical malpractice insurance, coupled with a deep comprehension of insurance company operations and data flow.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
  • Collaborate with actuarial team members to clean and optimize data, improving accuracy and efficiency in analysis.
  • Initiate process improvement initiatives within the actuarial department and across other areas of the company, driving increased operational efficiency.
  • Aid in cross-departmental projects, including staffing models, peer comparisons, and executive presentations.
  • Assist in data acquisition for new actuarial initiatives, ensuring high-quality data sources are utilized for analysis.
  • Analyze and make recommendations for refining the pricing and underwriting of our business within the existing pricing model. Enhance the models as appropriate.
  • Support the development of predictive models to enable accurate estimation of the ultimate value of claims.
  • Develop projections of operating results based on emerging trends, competitive conditions, and operational changes.
  • Continuously improve accuracy and efficiency of pricing and forecasting templates.
  • Provide clear communication of technical work to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide technical assistance and information to other departments.


QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
  • New ACAS or Pre-ACAS
  • Minimum of 5 years of insurance industry experience.
  • Experience with a programming language (R, SAS, SQL, Python, VBA, or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop software using a primary programming language.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills including experience in coding Macros/VBA.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Must possess ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated high level of problem solving aptitude.
