Valdosta, United States Veterans Health Administration Full time

The Outpatient Mental Health Nurse is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components.
Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction.
Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences.
Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs.
Performs Mental Health Nursing assessments and develops therapeutic alliance with Veterans while modeling appropriate behavior. Maintains safe and therapeutic environment of care.
Monitors for escalating behavior and employs de-escalation techniques. Assists Licensed Independent Providers to enact Baker Act when clinically indicated.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary Mental Health Clinic team to provide Veteran with nursing support to optimize mental and physical health.
Empowers Veteran by collaborating with the Veteran on problem solving.
Coordinates metabolic monitoring of Veterans prescribed atypical antipsychotics and alerts prescriber of results outside established parameters.
Cross-covers for PACT RN at CBOC sites.
If assigned to an ECT and TMS treatment clinic the nurse will assist with IV insertion as well as general care of patients receiving ECT, ketamine treatment, TMS treatment or any Neuromodulation treatments.
