As an Aerospace Engineer, you will perform the following duties:

Apply diversified aerospace engineering expertise to atypical or highly difficult assignments of a particular functional area relating to one or more of the following activities: planning, designing, developing, structural modifications, altering, costs estimating, inspecting, testing, or reviewing aerospace elements, components, systems and subsystems that encompass a wide assortment of aircraft equipment used under applicable federal regulatory agencies.
Design or perform aerospace engineering for the latest, state-of the-art equipment to be integrated into systems or aircraft. Review or develop the installation instructions for systems or continued airworthiness under Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or local guidelines and regulations. Develop the specifications for the repair, modifications, and testing of new types of aircraft systems. Prescribe changes in materials used or develop new procedures to assure standards are met.
Generate highly detailed engineering reports as specified in local policy and will present them to senior engineers, review boards and the engineering supervisor. Reports will be adopted for use and become standard established precedent.

NOTE: These duties are described at the ZP-3 Performance Level, the ZP-2 is developmental leading to such performance.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position requires the operation of a Federal Motor vehicle. Must be able to maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a government vehicle in completion of assigned tasks i.e. site visits, field research, etc.
Incumbent required to meet and maintain the medical requirements of the Aircraft Operations Center Medical Policy for Aircrew personnel.
Incumbent is subject to a drug test.
The position requires participation in mission flights, including flights into severe storms as a National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Aircrew member.
90 days travel per year and for periods of four to six weeks at a time is not uncommon.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position has physical requirements. Physical demands involve the lifting and handling of equipment in excess of 50 pounds in a cramped environment and a considerable amount of walking, stooping, crawling, and climbing.
